About Sonoma California

Sonoma is located on Highway 12 near Napa County, approx. 50 miles northeast of San Francisco and approx. 20 miles southeast of Santa Rosa.
Mission San Francisco Solano de Sonoma was established in 1823 by Father Junipero Sierra. The famous plaza was built under the leadership of Mariano Guadalupe Vallejo. In 1846, Sonoma was the site of the Bear Flag Revolt and it was declared finally independent from Mexico.
This county is well known by its award-winning wines and wineries. The surrounding Sonoma Valley is also known as the Valley of the Moon. This valley is also home of numerous historical attractions, restaurants, boutiques, museums, hotels, and much more.
