About Valley Ford California

Located on State Route 1 about 32 minutes north of downtown Santa Rosa and 58 miles north of San Francisco.
Native fishers (Miwok and Pomo) harvested salmon, which holds a historical significance. The salmon populations have declined in recent years. In 1812, Russian fur trades came from Alaska enslaved the natives, exploited the natural resources, and built Fort Ross. In 1800's, California came under Mexican control and by 1850 it became a U.S. state and part of Sonoma County.
