About Bodega Bay California

Bodega Bay is located 68 miles north of San Francisco on Highway 1 or 25 miles west on Highway 12 traveling from Santa Rosa. This city was named in honor to a Spanish captain who came to the bay in 1775. The Russians built Fort Ross 24 miles from Bodega Bay to trap fur in 1812. In 1850’s, the land was granted to Mexican citizens. Bodega Bay is known nowadays by the annual Fisherman’s Festival and has claim for fame after famous Alfred Hitchcock’s movie "The Birds" was filmed in 1963. Many recreational activities are offered, like fishing, bird watching, boating and dining at fine restaurants.
